MTI Consults with Scrap Iron Dealers’ Association on Proposed Changes
The Ministry and the Association agreed to collaborate regularly on sorting out issues in connection with the implementation of the new legislation.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) held talks with the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association (TTSIDA) on proposed changes to the industry.
The meeting held at Nicholas Tower, Port of Spain, was attended by permanent secretary Ayleen Alleyne-Ovid and deputy permanent secretary Randall Karim. The Association was represented among others by president Allan Ferguson, vice-president Eros Seejattan and vice-chairman of the Transition Team Isa Mohammed.
The meeting discussed various issues including the scrap metal exporting process, registration formalities for scrap metal dealers, streamlining of operations of scrap metal yards and the role to be played by scrap metal inspectors. The Ministry and the Association agreed to collaborate regularly on sorting out issues in connection with the implementation of the new legislation.
A letter, outlining ten recommendations towards smoother operations of the scrap metal industry in the country and addressed to Trade and Industry Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon, was handed over by the TTSIDA Transition Team. The two sides also reached an agreement to host a seminar by mid-June this year, which will recommend measures to ensure more efficient industry operations.
