BIR World Mirror on Recovered Paper Indicate Low OCC Demand

The report cited marginal improvement in European market.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) announced publication of World Mirror Quarterly Report on Recovered Paper.

According to the report, the demand for OCC grades remained low all over the world. The demand remained particularly weak in Asia. The packaging production reported weakness, as is evident from the reduced goods exports from China and other Asian countries to European region and the U.S. Thin in turn has resulted in weaker demand and prices for OCC, said the report by BIR’s Paper Division.

The report cited marginal improvement in European market. The demand and price for bulk grades increased since March this year in southern Europe. The low stocks at mills, weak collection volumes and presence of Asian buyers in the market were the other favourable factors.

In Germany, several paper mills using recovered fibre have decided to prepone their machine maintenance programmes, mainly on account of thin order books. The volumes are projected to fall by almost 20% this year, in comparison with previous years.

France reported difficult market environment for high grades, driven by flat demand and declining sales prices. Revovered grades are seen witnessing great competition, due to very low spot prices for paper pulp.
