SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The Illinois Recycling Foundation (IRF) and legislative affiliate, the Illinois Recycling Association (IRA) Board of Directors have named Sue Steilen their new Executive Director. Steilen has held leadership positions at associations for more than 20 years and served on the boards of several non-profit organizations. For the past 12 years, she has held several administrative roles and most recently served as the Community Events Coordinator at the Village of Homer Glen. Under the leadership and direction of Ms. Steilen, the IRF and IRA will continue to:
- Provide educational leadership through forums, programs, and materials for the exchange of information and ideas.
- Promote waste reduction, re-use, and recycling through public education.
- Promote market development that encourages sound recycling and composting initiatives.
- Be the voice for the recycling community on state legislative and policy matters.
“From picking up glass bottles and participating in newspaper drives when I was young to more recently organizing electronic and hazardous waste collection events, I have always valued the three R’s (Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle). I am very excited to be part of fulfilling the IRF/IRA mission,” said Steilen.
