SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) announced that it has selected Columbus, Mississippi as the location for its greenfield recycled aluminum flat rolled mill. The construction of the mill will be subject to receipt of necessary permits approvals and support from local as well as state governments.

The proposed mill is expected to create nearly 700 high-paying direct and indirect jobs, thus promising meaningful economic growth to the surrounding communities. It will further broaden SDI’s ability to serve its existing and new customers by adding high-quality, low-carbon flat rolled aluminum to its extensive product portfolio.

The Columbus, Mississippi location is adjacent to SDI’s Columbus Flat Roll Steel Division. Moreover, it offers easy access to railroads, highway systems and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.

The flat rolled aluminum will have a production capacity of around 650,000 tonnes of finished products per year. It is expected to commence operations in mid-2025.

Mark D. Millett, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, SDI said that the company is extremely excited to announce Columbus as the location for its new next-generation recycled aluminum flat rolled mill. He acknowledged the warm welcome and support it received from Governor Tate Reeves, state and local authorities and organizations as well as communities.
