AISI Applauded White House for its New Buy Clean Announcement

As per the announcement, the Federal Government will prioritize the purchase of key low carbon construction materials.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) applauded the recent White House announcement of new actions under its Federal Buy Clean Initiative aimed at ensuring American manufacturing leads in the 21st century.

The actions were announced by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan, and Deputy National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi while visiting Cleveland-Cliffs Direct Reduction steel plant in Toledo. It is expected to spur the development of low-carbon construction materials made in America while supporting good-paying jobs. As per the announcement, the Federal Government will prioritize the purchase of key low carbon construction materials.

Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI noted that it is pleased that the administration continues to recognize that the American steel industry is leading the way on decarbonisation.

AISI highlighted that the U.S. has the lowest CO₂ emissions per ton of steel produced, among major steel-producing countries. The entire industry has been making significant investments to further decrease carbon emissions and advance its leadership position on sustainability. Today’s announcement recognizes the innovations and advancements made by American steel producers, it said.
