Rio Tinto to Construct New Aluminum Recycling Center in Arvida
The project will generate around C$30 million in economic benefits in Quebec and around ten new full-time jobs at the Arvida plant.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Rio Tinto announced significant investment in setting up a new aluminium recycling center in Arvida. The facility is expected to become operational during Q2 2024 and will have an initial production capacity of 30,000 tons per year. The construction activities are expected to commence in the forthcoming months.

Rio Tinto to Invest in Upgrades to Aluminum Smelter
The company announced plans to invest $29 million in building a new aluminium recycling facility at its Arvida Plant in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. This will further augment the company’s offering of low-carbon aluminium solutions for customers in the automotive, packaging and construction markets. With this facility in operation, Rio Tinto will turn out to be the first North American aluminium producer to incorporate recycled post-consumer aluminium into aluminium alloys.
The recycling facility will remelt locally sourced clean aluminium scrap from used vehicles and construction materials to generate recycled content, which will be used in aluminium billets at the Arvida smelter and in other products across the company’s various Quebec facilities.
