Funding Boost to Support Solutions to Reduce Plastic Waste

The projects will be shortlisted for funding based on their ability to reduce the use of new plastic or increase the use of post-consumer recycled plastic.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The CleanBC Plastics Action Fund, established by the government of British Columbia, has received investment of $10 million. The funding boost will promote local solutions to reduce plastic pollution, generate new products and boost job opportunities.

The second round of investment is in addition to around $5 million distributed in 2021 to nine projects. The first intake of the CleanBC Plastics Action Fund had increased the province’s capacity to process and use recycled plastic by 20,000 tonnes per year. It must be noted that the second round of investment comprises dedicated funding for businesses that develop systems that aim to expand reuse of plastics.

The projects will be shortlisted for funding based on their ability to reduce the use of new plastic or increase the use of post-consumer recycled plastic. The list of successful projects will be chosen beginning in late September and continuing until February 2023. All projects must be completed before mid-February 2024.

Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North and Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation noted that the funding will help in creating clean growth opportunities in the B.C. province. It will support building a stronger B.C. for everyone, by reducing our impact on the planet, he added.
