Hydro Aluminum Recycling Plant in Germany to Undergo Major Expansion
The expansion is expected to cause additional production of 25,000 tonnes of aluminum HyForge products.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hydro announced major expansion at its aluminum recycling plant in Rackwitz, Germany. The proposed expansion will help the facility to serve automotive customers with additional volumes of post-consumer aluminum. The expansion will be at an investment of around EUR 40 million.
The expansion of the German recycling plant will contribute towards Hydro’s previously announced goal to double its use of post-consumer aluminum scrap from around 250,000 tonnes to over 500,000 tonnes per annum by 2025. The expanded facility is expected to become operational by the end of the first quarter of 2023 and will add 20 additional new jobs.

The expansion is expected to cause additional production of 25,000 tonnes of aluminum HyForge products. Furthermore, it will boost the recycling of post-consumer scrap as a major raw material for new products in the plant.
Thomas Stuerzebecher, Managing Director, Hydro Aluminium Metal Rackwitz noted that the introduction of HyForge has further strengthened collaboration and partnership with the automotive industry. The increased HyForge volumes, as a result of the expansion, will complement the volumes produced at Hydro’s Husnes, western Norway aluminum plant.
