World Ferrous Scrap Trade Summary for May 2022
The cumulative exports totalled 218,700 tons during the first five months of the current year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The scrap trade data published by countries across the world suggested mixed trend.
According to data published by the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), the country exported around 26,000 tons of ferrous scrap in May this year, significantly down by 64% from the previous month and by 21% from the same month a year before. The cumulative exports totalled 218,700 tons during the first five months of the current year.

The country imported 3,100 tons of scrap during the month, slightly higher by 6.7% from the previous month, but significantly down by 61.3% over the year-ago month. The imports totalled 14,000 tons in Jan-May ’22.
The most recent statistics release by the General Department of Vietnam Customs indicate that scrap imports totalled around 526,000 tons in May, growing by 34.4% compared to the preceding month. During the initial five-month period of 2022, Vietnam imported 1.28 million tons of scrap.
Meantime, Taiwan Customs data says that the country imported a total of around 1.3 million tons of ferrous scrap in the first five months of this year, down by a tenth over the previous year. The largest scrap supplier was the U.S., while Japan was ranked second.
