U.S. Steel Mills Recorded Surge in Capability Utilization Rate
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.777 million net tons (NT).
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded marginal decline by 3.1% during the week ending on May 7, 2022, when matched with the corresponding week a year before. This is based on the latest U.S. weekly domestic steel production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.777 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 81.4%. It must be noted that the production had totalled 1.834 million NT at a marginally lower capacity utilization rate of 81.0% during the corresponding week in 2021. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal surge by 0.1% over the week. The production was 1.775 million NT during the week ended April 30, 2022.
The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 772,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 566,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-176, Midwest-195 and Western-68.
The adjusted year-to-date production totalled 31.625 million net tons through May 7, 2022, at a capacity utilization rate of 80.1%. This is slightly lower upon comparison with the production of 32.174 million net tons and the capacity utilization rate of 78.7% in the corresponding year-to-date period last year.
