Novelis Announced Construction of New Continuous Annealing Line

The preparations towards construction of the new line will begin immediately upon receipt of the final government approval.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis, Inc. announced its decision to invest more than $30 million in building a new continuous annealing line at its Plettenberg-Ohle, Germany facility. The additional line is expected to double the plant’s capacity for aluminum used in the production of coffee capsules, so as to meet the growing demand from global food and packaging industry.

According to company press release, many leading global brands have switched to aluminum as a replacement for plastic in coffee capsules. Aluminum offers unique barrier properties and helps to protect the freshness and aroma of capsulated coffee, when compared with other materials including plastic. Also, it contributes to a circular economy, as it can be recycled again and again.

The preparations towards construction of the new line will begin immediately upon receipt of the final government approval. The line will begin operations in spring 2024.

Emilio Braghi, Executive Vice President and President, Novelis Europe noted that the investment is a demonstration of its commitment to serve as a trusted partner for our food and packaging industry customers and create more sustainable solutions for consumers. It will accelerate the company’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality latest by 2050, he added.
