Year-to-Date U.S. Raw Steel Output Tumbled

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 24.650 million NT through the week ending on April 9, 2022.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded marginal decline by 2.7% during the week ending on April 9, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.739 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 79.7%. It must be noted that the production had totalled 1.787 million NT at a lower capacity utilization rate of 78.8% during the corresponding week a year before. However, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal increase by 0.9% over the week. The production was 1.724 million NT during the week ended April 2, 2022.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 24.650 million NT through the week ending on April 9, 2022. This is down marginally by 0.6% from the production which totalled 24.792 million NT during the same period in 2021. The capability utilization rate recorded notable surge from 77.1% to 80.2% over the year.

The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 745,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 539,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-169, Midwest-210 and Western-76.
