AISI: U.S. Raw Steel Output Posted Modest Dip
The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 746,000 net tons.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded modest decline by 2.40% during the week ending on March 26, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.726 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 79.4%. It must be noted that the production had totalled 1.768 million NT at a lower capacity utilization rate of 78% during the corresponding week a year before. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal decline by 0.9% over the week. The production was 1.742 million NT during the week ended March 19, 2022.

The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 746,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 578,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-170, Midwest-166 and Western-66.
The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 21.225 million NT through the week ending on March 26, 2022. This is more or less flat from the production which totalled 21.218 million NT during the same period in 2021. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable surge from 77.1% to 80.4% over the year.
