In terms of per capita, the apparent consumption of steel in Chile during 2021 reached 169 kilograms. This places the country among the largest per capita steel consumers in the Latin American region.
According to Juan Carlos Guitierrez, Executive Director, ICHA, the growth in apparent steel consumption is mainly attributed to the increased level of investment in construction during the year. In addition, replenishing of inventory levels of finished products too contributed to increased consumption.
