U.S. Steel Mill Capability Utilization Dipped Below 80%

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 11.043 million NT through the week ending on February 12, 2022.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded marginal increase by 1.00% during the week ending on February 12, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.758 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 79.8%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.740 million NT at a lower capacity utilization rate of 76.8% during the corresponding week a year before. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal decline by 1.50% over the week. The production was 1.785 million NT during the week ended February 5, 2022.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 11.043 million NT through the week ending on February 12, 2022. This is up by 3.50% from the production which totalled 10.672 million NT during the same period in 2021. The capability utilization rate too recorded modest surge from 76.7% to 81.60% over the year.

Southern region emerged as the leading producer, with an output of 715,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 607,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-173, Midwest-195 and Western-68.
