AISI Recorded Modest Rise in U.S. Raw Steel Output

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 9.285 million NT through the week ending on February 5, 2022.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded modest increase by 2.60% during the week ending on February 5, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.785 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 81.1%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.739 million NT at a lower capacity utilization rate of 76.7% during the corresponding week a year before. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal decline by 0.60% over the week. The production was 1.796 million NT during the week ended January 22, 2022.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 9.285 million NT through the week ending on February 5, 2022. This is up by 4.0% from the production which totalled 8.931 million NT during the same period in 2021. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable surge from 76.6% to 82.0% over the year.

Southern region emerged as the leading producer, with an output of 709,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 613,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-169, Midwest-218 and Western-76.
