AISI: Trade Bill Provisions to Strengthen U.S. Trade Laws
According to AISI, the provisions in the trade bill are expected to further strengthen the U.S. trade laws.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) applauded passage of the ‘Leveling the Playing Field Act 2.0’ by the U.S. House of Representatives. The Institute had sent a letter to all members urging the passage of the trade bill as part of the America COMPETES Act.
According to AISI, the provisions in the trade bill are expected to further strengthen the U.S. trade laws. Apart from enhancing the tools available to obtain more expeditious relief against repeat offenders, it also promises to address the rising issue of cross-border subsidization and ensure timely completion of anti-circumvention enquiries, it noted.

Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI termed the passage of the bill as the first step towards adopting strengthening amendments to its trade laws. It is critical that the country’s trade laws be updated to respond to challenges, especially at a time when China and other export-oriented economies are seen developing new ways to evade and circumvent U.S. trade remedy orders, he added. The legislation will give American workers the confidence that their government has every potential tool available to fight for a level playing field against foreign competitors, Dempsey concluded.
The Leveling the Playing Field Act 2.0 was originally introduced in the House by Reps. Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Bill Johnson (R-OH).
