World Crude Steel Output Dropped in December 2021
The Middle East output surged the most, rising by 22.1% from the prior year month.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 158.7 million tonnes (Mt) in the month of December last year, down modestly by 3.0% compared to the same month a year before.
The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 116.7 Mt in December 2021. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 11.10 Mt. In third place was North America, which recorded an output of 9.70 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.2), CIS (8.9), Other Europe (4.3), Middle East (3.9) and South America (3.5).

The Middle East output surged the most, rising by 22.1% from the prior year month. The North American region recorded year-on-year surge in output by 7.5%. The monthly output by the EU-27 and South American regions were down by 1.4% and 8.7% respectively. Other Europe too saw marginal dip in output by 0.8%.
Meantime, the CIS region saw its output decrease marginally by 3.0% over the previous year. Also, the Asia and Oceania region recorded dip in output by 4.4%.
The topmost steel producing country was China, with an output of 86.2 Mt in December last year. The other key steel producing countries were India (10.4 Mt) and Japan (7.9 Mt).
