World Crude Steel Output Surged in 2021

The CIS region recorded notable jump by 5.6% in output to 105.60 Mt.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 1,911.9 million tonnes (Mt) during the previous year. This is higher by 3.6% when compared with the 2020 production, said the latest monthly press release.

The largest regional producer of steel during 2021 was Asia and Oceania region, which recorded a cumulative output of approximately 1,382.0 Mt. The region accounted for just over 72% of the total global production. The regional output surged higher by 0.6% over the previous year. The second largest producer was the block of EU-27 countries, whose output recorded notable year-on-year surge by 15.4% to 152.5 Mt. In third place was North America with a production of 117.8 Mt. The yearly production by the region posted notable increase by 16.6% over 2020.

The CIS region recorded notable jump by 5.6% in output to 105.60 Mt. The South American output, at 45.60 Mt, was up substantially by 17.8%, when matched with the previous year. The Middle East output edged higher marginally by 1.2% to 41.2 Mt. Meanwhile, the African countries witnessed 26.7% surge in output to 14.7 Mt during the previous year.

It must be noted that the 64 countries included in the list, had accounted for 98% of world’s total crude steel production in 2020.
