AISI Recorded 17% Surge in U.S. Steel Mill Shipments
The report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the initial eleven-month period of the previous year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) suggests notable surge in steel shipments during the month of November last year compared with the same month in 2020. On the other hand, the shipments registered modest decline over the prior month.
According to AISI data, the steel mills shipped 7.894 million net tons in November 2021. This is significantly higher by 16.9% from the shipments of 6.753 million net tons in the same month a year before. The shipments during the month recorded marginal decline by 3.9% from the previous month. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled 8.215 million net tons in the month of October 2021.
The report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the initial eleven-month period of the previous year. The shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip surged higher significantly by 20% from Jan-Nov ‘20. The shipments of cold rolled sheet were up by 15%, whereas those of hot rolled sheet recorded 12% year-on-year surge.
The cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 86.848 million net tons during the initial eleven-month period of 2021. This is significantly higher by 17.4% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled only 73.951 million net tons from January to November in 2020.
