Plastic Bank targets to collect 5,000 tons of plastic by 2023.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Plastic Bank- the social enterprise announced collection details for the current year and the plans for next year, aimed at reducing Egypt’s plastic pollution.

According to Amr El-Kady, Regional Director for Egypt, the Middle East and Africa, Plastic Bank, it managed to collect 2,700 tonnes of plastic waste, equivalent to 150 million bottles, during 2021, thus exceeding the target set for the year. Plastic Bank targets to collect 5,000 tons of plastic by 2023. This will be achieved by expanding its collection network in four provinces, including Alexandria, Assiut, Kafr el-Sheikh, and Menoufeya. In addition, it also aims to formalize the plastic waste collection sector in the country, he added.

In 2021, Plastic Bank achieved significant expansion across the country, by partnering with Henkel Egypt. A total of 11 new collection centres were established during the year, including six in Mansheyyet Nasser, two in Al-Khosous, one in Fayoum, Port Said, Nuweiba and 15 May cities each. It looks forward to deliver more progress by expanding its plastic waste collection systems and recycling operations across the country.

Plastic Bank looks forward to create tactical partnerships with major private sector firms operating in various fields, as part of efforts to boost collection of plastic waste.
