Tata Steel to Augment Iron Ore Production by 50%

The company plans to raise the production to 45 MTPA over the period of next five years.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tata Steel- the leading Indian steelmaker announced that it will focus on boosting the iron ore production from its captive mines by 50% over the next five years.

According to Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, Divisional General Manager-Ores, Mines and Quarries (OMQ) Division, the iron ore production from its Noamundi mine in Jharkhand and Katamati, Joda and Khondbond blocks in Odisha currently amounts to approximately 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The company plans to raise the production to 45 MTPA over the period of next five years.

 The proposed boost in iron-ore production is in line with the expansion of company’s steelmaking facilities in the country, he said. Furthermore, the present mine capacity is sufficient to meet the iron ore requirement at its Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar steelmaking facilities, he added.

The company official stated that drones have been deployed in the Noamundi iron ore mine for surveying and monitoring purposes. In addition, the company has made notable progress in installation of solar power plant at the block and addition of green cover in the area.
