AISI Hailed Passage of Infrastructure Bill

The bill would ensure that taxpayer funds are used to procure cleaner steel produced in the country.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) welcomed passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) by the Biden administration. Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI issued a statement in response to passage of the $1 trillion infrastructure spending bill.

In the statement, he noted that American steel has built the country and that the industry is now getting ready to work on rebuilding the country. The bill would ensure that the country’s infrastructure system meets the demand of the 21st century. The passage of the bill by the U.S. Congress provides tremendous boost to steel industry, as the American steel demand is projected to surge higher by nearly 5 million tons for every $100 billion of new investment, it said.

The bill would ensure that taxpayer funds are used to procure cleaner steel produced in the country. AISI looks forward to signing of the bill into law by President Biden at the earliest, the statement said.

The landmark bill was approved yesterday by the House of Representatives with 228-206 vote. The bill will now head to Biden’s desk for final signature. It proposes federal expenditure over a period of eight years, aimed at upgrading highways, roads and bridges, modernising city transit systems and passenger rail networks.
