Coca-Cola Committed to Boost Use of Recycled Plastic

The move is in line with its vision to make all of its packaging solutions sustainable, reusable and recyclable.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Coca-Cola Philippines announced plans to ramp up the use of recycled plastic in its products. Also, the company plans to exit the sachet industry by next year.

According to Antonio “Tony” V. Del Rosario, President, Coca-Cola Philippines, the company plans to accelerate the use of more recycled plastic in its soft drinks bottles for selected brands by 2022. It must be noted that the company had introduced 100% recycled plastic for its Sprite and Viva! Eco-bottle brands in 2019 itself.

Furthermore, Antonio noted that the production of Eight O’ Clock powdered juice drink will come to a stop next year, thereby marking complete exit from sachet market. This is the only company product that still uses sachets. The local bottling partner of the company in the Philippines had earlier decided to introduce paper straws in its juice and dairy products.  The move is in line with its vision to make all of its packaging solutions sustainable, reusable and recyclable.

Coca-Cola was recently named as the world’s top plastic polluter by ‘Break Free From Plastic’- the coalition movement that targets to reduce plastic waste throughout the globe.

Meantime, Coca-Cola reiterated its commitment to have all of its packaging recyclable by 2025, in addition to using at least 50% of the recycled material by 2030.
