Novelis to Boost Manufacturing Capabilities at Zhenjiang Plant

As part of the expansion project, the company plans to upgrade the existing hot mill.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis, Inc.- the leader in aluminum rolling and recycling announced plans to invest $375 million to expand its Chinese manufacturing capabilities. The proposed investment will expand rolling and recycling capabilities at its Zhenjiang plant, thus creating an automotive closed-loop recycling system in the country.

As part of the expansion project, the company plans to upgrade the existing hot mill. It also comprises setting up of a new cold mill and a new recycling and casting center. The groundbreaking on the expansion works are expected to be held in early 2022, whereas the project is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

The company press release noted that the investment is expected to create a fully integrated supply chain for the automotive market in China between its Zhenjiang rolling and recycling facility and Changzhou automotive finishing plant. Furthermore, it will free up rolling capacity at the company's Ulsan Aluminum joint venture in South Korea. Meantime, the Zhenjiang plant will continue to serve the aerospace and industrial plate sectors as before, it said.
