worldsteel Announced Topmost Steel Producers in August

The steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the association was 156.8 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2021.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) published the list of top ten crude steel producers for the month of August this year.

China continued to remain as the undisputed leading producer, with an output of 83.2 million tonnes (Mt), though the output recorded year-on-year decline by 13.2%. The dip in production by the country dragged the region’s total steel output during the month. The country’s cumulative steel output totalled 733.0 Mt in Jan-Aug ’21, higher by 5.3% year-on-year.

World Crude Steel Output Witnessed Notable Surge Until August

The second largest crude steel producer was India with estimated output of 9.9 Mt. The country’s output recorded year-on-year surge by 8.2%.  The Indian crude steel production stood at 77.7 Mt through August this year. In third place was Japan, whose output recorded year-on-year surge by 22.9% to total 7.9 Mt during the month of August this year. The cumulative output by Japan was up by 17% to total 64.0 Mt during Jan-Aug ’21, worldsteel data said.

The steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the association was 156.8 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2021, down marginally by 1.4% compared to the same month a year before. These 64 countries accounted for approximately 98% of the total world crude steel production in 2020.

The other world countries to feature in the top-ten list include the U.S. (7.5 Mt), Russia (6.3 Mt), South Korea (6.1 Mt), Germany (3.0 Mt), Turkey (3.5 Mt), Brazil (3.1 Mt) and Iran (2.5 Mt).
