Scrap Imports Exhibited Mixed Trend in Asia
The total scrap imports by South Korea surged higher by almost 50% year-on-year to total 462,000 tons.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The scrap imports by leading Asian destinations witnessed mixed trend during the month of July this year.
The statistics released by the General Administration of Customs, China suggests that the country’s scrap imports totalled around 93,000 tons in July this year. This is significantly higher when compared with the prior month. The largest scrap supplier during the month was Japan. The imports from that country surged higher by 15% over the previous month. In second place was South Korea with supplies of 14,800 tons, followed by Taiwan with 3,700 tons.

World Scrap Imports Recaptured Notable Momentum
The total scrap imports by South Korea surged higher by almost 50% year-on-year to total 462,000 tons. The primary supplier was Japan, with around 284,000 tons of supplies, followed by the U.S. and Russia with 80,000 tons and 52,000 tons respectively. Meantime, the cumulative imports from January to July this year recorded decline by 5.5% over the year to total around 2.57 million tons.
The total scrap imports by Vietnam this July were around 705,000 tons, marginally down by 0.4% from the prior month. The U.S. accounted for the major share of imports with supplies of around 278,000 tons. The other major import sources were Japan (192,000 tons) and Australia (90,000 tons).
