DS Smith Invests in Robots at Kemsley Paper Mill

The company announced replacement of forklifts with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), supplied by Mitsubishi Logisnext Europe Oy.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith announced investment in robots at its Kemsley paper mill- UK’s largest paper mill, in an attempt to boost sustainability and efficiency. The company announced replacement of forklifts with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), supplied by Mitsubishi Logisnext Europe Oy.

The AGVs employed at the facility perform a wide range of tasks, including collecting reels from the production conveyor, storing them, and picking them for orders. If no specific work is assigned, they automatically switch to housekeeping mode. The robots could transport paper reels safely around the warehouse at speeds of up to 8mph. They operate with zero local emissions. The average lifespan is around 12 years.

Petri Petäys, sales director at Mitsubishi Logisnext Europe Oy noted that the optimized solution by the company has been witnessing huge interest due to the increasing for sustainable, safe and efficient solutions in the paper and packaging segment.
