INVEST in America Act to Boost Domestic Steel Demand
In a statement, Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI said that the Institute applauds the actions taken by President Biden to strengthen federal Buy American preferences. These efforts will ensure that federal tax dollars are used to buy products made in America. The proposal calls for increasing the amount of American-made content that must be contained in a product to be considered as made in America.
The strong domestic procurement preferences play a vital role in creating and maintaining well-paid U.S. manufacturing jobs and protecting the nation’s economic security. The use of U.S. products will deliver significant environmental benefits too, as the nation leads the world in terms of clean steel production.
The proposed rule aims to close loopholes by raising the domestic content threshold. It strengthens domestic supply chains for critical goods with its new price preferences. Furthermore, it increases transparency and accountability in Buy American rules.
