Aurubis to Construct State-of-the-Art Recycling Facility at Bersee Site
The company plans in investment of nearly € 27 million in Beerse site.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Aurubis announced construction of a state-of-the-art recycling facility at its Bersee site in Belgium. The new facility will make use of hydrometallurgical technique to process anode sludge- an intermediate product from electrolytic copper refining to extract higher volumes of precious metals such as gold and silver as well as tin.
The company plans in investment of nearly € 27 million in Beerse site. The Advanced Sludge Processing by Aurubis (ASPA) will further strengthen metal recycling activities at the site. In addition to increasing the site’s importance to the whole group, it will also create new jobs. The central geographic position between the involved sites will lead to significant savings in transportation costs, said Dr. Heiko Arnold, COO of Aurubis AG.
Aurubis has been working on the innovative ASPA process for more than three years. The process will significantly enhance the value of metals such as tin as well as precious metals. It allows extraction of more valuable metals out of the same intermediate product and that too in a faster manner.
The detailed engineering and approval processes for ASPA are in progress. Aurubis plans to start constructing the facility in Q2 2022, with commissioning scheduled for early 2024.
