Pact Group, Cleanaway Partners To Construct Modern Plastic Recycling Facility

The proposed Laverton facility will boost the country’s local processing capacity for recycled plastics.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Richmond, Australia-based Pact Group and Cleanaway-m Australia’s leading waste management company announced construction of a new plastic recycling facility to be located at the latter’s recycling facility at Laverton. The construction works are expected to begin by end-2021, with the facility expected to become fully operational by end of next year.

According to joint press release by the companies, the post-consumer polyethylene recycling plant will be built at an expense of $38 million. It will have capacity to process more than 20,000 tonnes of locally collected kerbside plastic materials into high-quality food grade resins, which in turn will be used in manufacturing food, dairy and other packaging products, it noted.

The proposed Laverton facility will boost the country’s local processing capacity for recycled plastics. Australia has been lacking adequate recycling infrastructure facilities to locally handle reprocessing of kerbside waste and has been a major exporter of such waste to offshore destinations, before implementation of export ban.

It must be noted that Pact Group is part of yet another joint venture project, which is currently constructing a PET recycling facility in Albury to be commissioned before the end of this year.
