SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sonoco- the diversified packaging major announced fresh commitments to further boost its environmental performance. The company set ambitious goals to achieve significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
According to company press release, it has committed to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, compared with 2020. Also, it aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 13.5%, upon comparison with 2019 levels. Furthermore, it targets to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

With the aim of achieving the above ambitious targets, Sonoco will work towards developing innovative packaging solutions that reduce packaging waste and improve recyclability. In addition, it will explore necessary operational changes and technological developments. It plans to invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects across its global operations.
The company will work with customers and suppliers to further boost its EnviroSense packaging portfolio that focuses on developing sustainable packaging solutions that will protect and preserve the planet for future generations.
