Top Ten Gold Mines by Production in Canada
The third largest gold mine in Canada was Agnico Eagle-owned LaRonde, which produced 93 koz of gold in Q1 2021.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kitco ranked the top ten gold mines in Canada by production during the initial quarter of the current year.
The estimated gold production from Canadian mines totalled 1,488 koz in Q1 this year. This is higher by almost 7% from the same quarter a year before. The gold production hit fresh highs during the quarter. The gold mines in the country had produced only 1,385 koz in Q1 2020.
The largest gold mine by production was the Canadian Malartic, whose quarterly output surpassed all estimates to hit 179 koz of gold. The monthly mined volumes hit new record in the month of January this year. It must be noted that the mine is jointly owned by Yamana Gold and Agnico Eagle. In second place was Detour Lake mine owned by Kirkland Lake, whose production surged higher by nearly 7% over the previous year to total 147 koz of gold. The third largest gold mine in Canada was Agnico Eagle-owned LaRonde, which produced 93 koz of gold in Q1 2021.
The other mines to feature in the top ten list along with their output in koz are provided below: Meliadine (88), Brucejack (86), Meadowbank (80), Porcupine (75), Eleonore (63), Rainy River (55) and Young-Davidson (48).
