Coca Cola Join Hands to Boost Plastic PET Packaging Recycling

The raw materials will then be delivered to PLAF facilities, where they will be creatively reused.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Coca-Cola Philippines announced that it has entered into new partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the Plastic Flamingo (PLAF), aimed at boosting community level collection and recycling of plastic PET packaging. The move, in line with the company’s ‘World Without Waste’ vision, is expected to tackle the growing problem of plastic waste pollution in the country.

Commenting on the partnership, Anthony “Tony” del Rosario, President, Coca-Cola Philippines noted that the pressing plastic waste issue can be solved only by collaborating with likeminded entities. The new initiatives will be inclusive and will have huge positive impact on improvement of collection and recycling of recyclable packaging, Rosario added.

The partnership will see collaboration of 27 junk shops and 20 waste collectors in Muntinlupa City. It aims to achieve a collection of at least 500 metric tons of plastic waste within one year of operation. In addition to providing relevant education on different plastic waste categories, the partnership will provide collectors with various tools for collection as well as protective equipment to safeguard their health.

The collectors can earn income by selling the gathered plastic waste to designated junk shops. The raw materials will then be delivered to PLAF facilities, where they will be creatively reused.
