Steel Trade Body Lists Topmost Steel Producing Companies in 2020

The steel production by China declined, compared with 2019, whereas those by India and Japan recorded increase over the year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The 2021 World Steel in Figures report published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) provides a list of top steel-producing companies in the world during the previous year.

According to the report, China Baowu Group emerged as the largest global steel producer, with an output of 115.29 tonnes. In second place was ArcelorMittal with 78.46 tonnes, followed by HBIS Group in third place, with an annual steel output of 43.76 tonnes. The top-ten list also comprises of Shagang Group (41.59 tonnes), Nippon Steel Corporation (41.58 tonnes), POSCO (40.58 tonnes), Ansteel Group (38.19 tonnes), Jianglong Group (36.47 tonnes), Shougang Group (34 tonnes) and Shandong Steel Group (31.11 tonnes).

China ranked as the topmost steel producing country, accounting for a total production of 995.4 tonnes in 2020. India and Japan occupied second and third spot with production of 111.4 tonnes and 99.3 tonnes respectively. The production (in tonnes) by other major producing countries was as follows: U.S. (87.8), Russia (71.7), South Korea (71.4), Germany (39.6), Turkey (33.7), Brazil (32.6) and Iran (25.6).

The steel production by China declined, compared with 2019, whereas those by India and Japan recorded increase over the year. The top 10 countries remained the same, except for the fact that Germany improved its position from 8 to 7.
