SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced publication of 2021 World Steel in Figures. The report lists out largest importers and exporters of steel during the previous year.

The largest steel exporter in 2020 was China, whose imports totalled 51.4 million tonnes (Mt). In second and third place were Russia (31.5 Mt) and Japan (29.8 Mt) respectively. The other countries in the top ten list along with the export volume in Mt are as follows: South Korea (27.6), EU-28 (22.6), Germany (21.2), Turkey (18.5), India (17.1), Ukraine (15.2) and Italy (14.9). Ingots and semi-finished materials were the largest exported steel product during the previous year.

China topped the list of largest steel importers as well. The country imported 37.9 Mt of steel in 2020, followed by EU-28 region and the U.S. with imports of 32.6 Mt and 19.9 Mt respectively. Germany’s steel imports totalled 18.2 Mt, whereas those of Italy and Turkey totalled 15.5 Mt and 13.6 Mt respectively. France (11.8 Mt), South Korea (11.5 Mt) and Poland (10.8 Mt) were the other primary steel importers.

The topmost net steel exporters were Russia, Japan and South Korea, whereas the top three net importers of steel were the U.S., EU-28 and Saudi Arabia.
