Turkish Gold Output to Hit Fresh Record in 2021

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Turkish Gold Miners Association stated that the country’s gold output is likely to hit new peak during the current year. The output is predicted to reach at least 45 tonnes this year, thus surpassing the record-high level achieved in 2020. It must be noted that the output of the yellow metal by the country had totalled 42 tonnes during the previous year.

Mehmet Yilmaz, president of the Turkish Gold Miners Association stated that the target is to raise the country’s gold output to at least 45 tonnes by the end of the current year. Furthermore, it aims to deliver significant value addition by ramping up production as much as possible. The Association aims to achieve production of 100 tonnes of gold over the next five years, provided the nearly 20 projects in pipeline get permissions from public, Yilmaz added.

As per latest available information, Turkey operates a total of 18 gold mines, with the sector employing nearly 13,000 people. The country targets to become one among ten countries in the world with annual gold production exceeding 100 tonnes.

Incidentally, Turkey is one of the largest consumers of gold in the world. The country had imported $26.6 billion worth of the yellow metal in 2020.
