The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) has set up a committee, which will focus on planning, research and development of carbon reduction initiatives and formulating regulation policies. The works of the committee will be supported by an expert group, especially in matters related to policies and techniques. Meantime, the Indian government called for collaborated action among stakeholders to address the issue of carbon emissions, which it feels, is a big threat to the global steel industry. The authorities highlighted the need to adopt technologies capable of capturing carbon from carbon dioxide, thus preventing them from entering atmosphere. The industry must transit towards carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture and utilization (CCU), said Rasika Chaube, Additional Chief Secretary in the Ministry of Steel.
