Province Partners with Cal2Recycle to Launch New Battery Recycling Program

Cal2Recycle’s established drop off locations across the province, including all SARCAN depots will form part of the collection network.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The province of Saskatchewan has announced launch of new recycling program for consumer batteries. The program is being launched in partnership with non profit organization Cal2Recycle Canada Inc. The program will provide consumers with an option to dispose of their household batteries to be recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.

Cal2Recycle’s established drop off locations across the province, including all SARCAN depots will form part of the collection network. Call2Recycle will be paid environment handling fee towards collection, transportation and recycling of batteries. The fee rates will vary depending upon the size and chemistry type of the battery. The program will accept used single-use and rechargeable consumer batteries weighing less than five kilograms. Meantime, lead acid batteries will not be accepted.

Environment Minister Warren Kaeding noted that the new recycling program will be a positive step for the environment and for the people of Saskatchewan. The program will help to keep batteries and other hazardous materials out of landfills, he added. Meantime, Cal2Recycle Canada, Inc. President Joe Zenobio encouraged all residents to safely drop off their batteries at their nearest collection point.
