JW Aluminum to Shut Pennsylvania Aluminum Rolling Mill

The closing of the facility is expected to affect nearly 65 employees.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mount Holly, S.C.-headquartered JW Aluminum- a leading producer of flat rolled aluminium products decided to close its aluminum foil rolling facility in Williamsport, Pennsylvania by 29th January, 2021. The company attributed the closure to contraction in aerospace sector.

According to Stan Brant, Jr., CEO of JW Aluminum, aerospace industry was one among the severely impacted sectors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The abrupt contraction has negatively impacted participants throughout the supply chain. Incidentally, products related to aerospace industry accounted for more than half of the total production at the company’s Williamsport facility, he added.

The closing of the facility is expected to affect nearly 65 employees. Meantime, the company will continue operations at its Goose Creek, South Carolina as well as Arkansas facilities. The affected employees will be offered all possible support in order to ensure a safe and successful transition, the company press release said.

JW Aluminum said that many potential buyers are already in touch with the company for the Williamsport assets.

Earlier in 2020, the company had decided to close its aluminium foil plant located in St. Louis, Missouri. At the same time, it had invested in Goose Creek, South Carolina facility expansion.
