Metsa Fibre Received Key Permits for New Mill in Kemi, Finland

The environmental permit specifies the limit values for emissions for the new mill.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Metsa Fibre announced that it has received environmental and water supply permits for its new bioproduct mill in Kemi, Finland from The Regional State Administrative Agency for Northern Finland.

The environmental permit specifies the limit values for emissions for the new mill. The company expects that the new mill will stay well below the limits of the environmental permit. Also, the mill will employ most advanced technology at the wastewater treatment plant, which in turn will ensure environmental safety.

It must be noted that preparatory works in connection with pre-engineering had started in the month of April this year. Excavation and pile-driving works have been in progress since then. The demolition work for various buildings in the site had begun in June, further to obtaining demolition permit from the municipality of Kemi well in advance. In addition, first construction agreements are also in place.

Earlier during the first week of December, Metsa Fibre had signed a preliminary agreement with Linde towards construction of an on-site oxygen plant for supply to the new bioproduct mill. The proposed fully automated plant will be monitored and operated from the company’s remote operation center in Sweden.

The total investment of the new bioproduct mill is estimated at around Euro 1.5 billion.
