SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The members of the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) announced first steps of actions by the members to boost the industry’s efforts to tackle plastic waste. The Coalition members finalized the first two of a series of “Golden Design Rules” for the design of plastic packaging. The rules target to achieve the goal of using lesser volume of plastics in products.
The Coalition’s efforts are focused on four main priorities. It visualizes adopting plastic packaging design principles to cut the amount of plastic used in packaging. The members wish to align on a framework for EPR programmes towards development of waste management systems. In addition, they work on piloting new programmes to increase recycling rates and support recycling innovations.
In addition, the coalition members have released a new position paper that provides a framework for development and implementation of EPR programmes. The paper details on providing effective support to local recycling schemes.
