The Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Nestle Emerge as the Worst Plastic Polluters
The report findings are based on counting and documenting the brands on plastic waste collected from across the world.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recent report published by Break Free Plastic lists out the world’s top plastic polluters. The report titled “BRANDED Vol III: Demanding Corporate Accountability for Plastic Pollution” cites the Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo and Nestle as the world’s three worst plastic polluters.
The report findings are based on counting and documenting the brands on plastic waste collected from across the world. The results are based on a total of 346,494 pieces of plastic collected from as many as 55 different countries across the globe. The analysis of the report suggests that top multinational companies, who are producers of fast-moving consumer goods have made very little progress in their efforts to reduce plastic footprint, despite their repeated commitment to do so.
Coca-Cola topped the list with 13,834 pieces of plastic from 51 countries, followed by PepsiCo with 5,155 pieces from 43 countries. The 8,633 plastic pieces collected from 37 countries had the brand Nestle on them. The others in the list of top ten plastic polluters were Unilever, Mondelez, Mars, P&G, Philip Morris, Colgate-Palmolive and Perfetti.
