Cascades Decides to Shut Laval, Quebec Plant
There has been a severe drop in the number of visitors to restaurants, hotels and public buildings, markets served by the Laval plant, on account of Covid-19 pandemic.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kingsey Falls, Quebec-based Cascades, Inc. announced its decision to close Laval plant in Quebec. The facility will close effective 30th June, 2021. The plant, with a converting capacity of 1.4 million cases per annum, mainly produces napkins for the away-from-home market. The volume will be shifted to other Cascades plants. It must be noted that the Laval plant currently employs 54 people.
There has been a severe drop in the number of visitors to restaurants, hotels and public buildings, markets served by the Laval plant, on account of Covid-19 pandemic. This, coupled with rising logistics costs, has prompted the company to move its operations to other plants. Such a move will help in optimization of its operations and reduction of costs. The rearrangement will not affect product quality or the level of service offered to customers, said Jean-David Tardif, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cascades Tissue Group.

The company announced that it will work closely with its employees, so as to reduce the impact of the closure. Employees will be offered relocation to its other business units in the region. Those who are unable or do not wish to relocate to other plants, will be offered support in their search for new employment.
