Weyerhaeuser Announces Huge Investment in Mill Modernization Project

The project comprises of major equipment upgrades at the mill site, including modernization of manufacturing presses and machinery.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Weyerhaeuser Company plans to make huge investment in modernizing its Natchitoches mill, Louisiana. The $16.1 million capital investment project was announced jointly by Gov. John Bel Edwards and Jason Smith, Mill Manager, Natchitoches.

The project comprises of major equipment upgrades at the mill site, including modernization of manufacturing presses and machinery. The new project will secure over 200 existing jobs at the facility. As per estimates provided by the Louisiana Economic Development, it would create a total of 45 new jobs in the region, including 20 well-paid direct jobs over the next several years.

Commenting on the investment, Gov. Edwards said that the Natchitoches mill is a great economic engine, especially in north-central Louisiana. The new project will modernize the mill with new important technology, which in turn will boost the size and competitiveness of the Weyerhaeuser workforce in the state, he added.

Meantime Jason Smith hoped that the project would bring sustained benefits to its people, operations and the community. The investment reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the Natchitoches community. The company has been working on the project for more than a year, Smith noted.

Over the past several years, Weyerhaeuser has made multiple investments in the mill, contributing to the region’s economic growth.
