ALDI Declares Five-Year Action Plan to Reduce Plastics
In addition to joining the Pact, ALDI declared its commitment to make its packaging more sustainable.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): ALDI- one of the fastest growing retail chains in the U.S., has announced its decision to partner with the U.S. Plastics Pact, aimed at achieving significant reduction in plastic use over the next five years.
By joining the pact, ALDI has committed to define a list of problematic or unnecessary packaging by 2021 and take appropriate measures to eliminate them by 2025. The retailer would ensure that all of its packaging will be 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. Also, the company will take necessary steps to effectively recycle or compost 50% of its plastic packaging. In addition, the average recycled content in plastic packaging will be boosted to 30%.

In addition to joining the Pact, ALDI declared its commitment to make its packaging more sustainable.
It must be noted that the company has kept approximately 15 million single-use plastic bags out of landfills and waterways by not offering them during its four decades of operation.
Joan Kavanaugh, Vice President of Corporate Buying at ALDI U.S. noted that it is thrilled to join join the U.S. Plastics Pact and look forward to collaborating with its other members to drive action toward reduction of single-use plastics use. The global impact of plastics use should not be ignored by any business, he reminded.
