Kinross Gold Declares Safety and Sustainability Progress

Kinross Gold has committed $5.4 million in support of pandemic response efforts.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Toronto-based Kinross Gold Corporation published its 2019 Sustainability Report. The report outlines the safety and sustainability progress made by the company over the past two years in delivering on its previously announced commitments to responsible mining.

The report notes that the company had established a task force to co-ordinate its global operational response to Covid-19 pandemic, even before it was declared a pandemic. Further, it had launched a comprehensive set of practices and rigorous protocols to protect its workforce and communities. Kinross Gold has committed $5.4 million in support of pandemic response efforts.

Kinross, being a member of the World Gold Council (WGC), had played a key role in development of Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs). The company has been able to conform to 94% of these principles in 2019. It is committed to advance its progress over the next two years, the report said.

The acquisition of two renewable energy hydroelectric plants in Brazil has helped the company to further lower its greenhouse gas emission (GHG) footprint. Also, it has achieved saving of nearly 23.8 million kilowatts per annum by way of notable advancements in energy efficiency projects across its sites.
