Sims Metal Joint Venture Acquired Steel City Recycling Assets

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Orange, California-headquartered SA Recycling LLC announced expansion of its footprint in the Southeast region through purchase of assets of Steel City Recycling LLC. The transaction closed on August 14th, 2020, said the company press release.
The acquisition by the joint venture between Adams Steel and Sims Metal Management covers Steel City’s Birmingham, Alabama and West Point, Mississippi locations. The addition of assets will lead to significant expansion of the company’s East Coast market share. Also, it will help in enhanced shredding and metal operations in the Southeast by boosting its scrap purchase volume in the region.

SA Recycling had made its entry into the Southeast scrap market in 2016, when it purchased a total of 17 scrap metal processing facilities from Newell Recycling Southeast LLC. In the following year, it has expanded further through acquisition of seven processing locations of Decatur, Alabama-headquartered Tennessee Valley Recycling LLC. Further to this, the company had also acquired assets of Savannah, Georgia-based Georgia Recyclers and two Alter scrap yards in Alabama and Mississippi during 2018.
The most recent acquisition takes SA Recycling’s total tally of scrap metal processing facilities to over 75.
