Covid-19 Pandemic Forced Forestry Industry to Reshape Its Ways
The post-Covid era is likely to provide opportunities for sustainable growth and low-carbon economy.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Covid-19 pandemic has prompted forestry industry to rethink its ways, in order to transform the sector to adjust to the new market situations. Unfortunately the crisis situation has resulted in uncertainties, not only to the forest industry, but also to its workers, their families and communities.
According to Denis Cormier, Vice President, Research Operations at FPInnovations, the currently unfavourable lumber market conditions have resulted in shutdown of many sawmills. This in turn has impacted the downstream chip supply of pulp mills. The sector is likely to report delay in capital expenditures. The investments in research and development projects too are expected to decline substantially.

Cormier said that the organization is currently providing rapid delivery to its members and boosting new project outcomes with the involvement of commercialization partners. It will focus on accelerating the growth and transformation of the forest sector by creating new market opportunities through innovative techniques.
The confinement measures have forced the organization to switch to telework arrangement for employees.
