India Announces Fresh Anti-Dumping Duty on Imported Steel Products

The move is aimed at protecting domestic manufacturers of these products from cheap imports.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): India imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of certain categories of steel products from China, Vietnam and South Korea. The order issued Tuesday by the Revenue Department noted that the rate of duty varies from country to country and from exporter to exporter.

The move is aimed at protecting domestic manufacturers of these products from cheap imports. The investigation conducted by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) under the Ministry of Commerce had concluded that the above steel products were being exported to India below its associated normal value, thus causing injury to domestic manufaturers.

According to the order, flat rolled product of steel, plated or coated with alloy of aluminum and zinc from the above three countries will be subject to anti-dumping duty for a period of five years, with effect from October 15, 2019. The imposed duties range from $13.07 per tonne to $173.1 per tonne. The provisional anti-dumping duty imposed in October last year had expired in April 2020.

The Indian Ministry stated that the imposition of anti-dumping duty is aimed at ensuring fair trading practices and creating a level-playing field for domestic manufacturers of these steel products.
